This one was a memorial to a very special father. He was a businessman and owned a large collection of ties. Rather than divvy them up between relatives or donate them to a vintage store, my client, Luciel, chose to make an intricate quilt block for each member of her family and frame it in a shadowbox. All told, we created 15 (yes, you heard me. 15!) of these magnificient heirlooms. Luciel lives 5 hours away from the studio and she made the trek with her trusty sewing machine in order to do some finishing touches. I think we're both pleased as punch at the final result. Luciel and I have been literally working for months together to get them just right, and we finished the last stitch just in time to miss the horrible snowstorm and get them delivered to their recipients. I can't wait to hear what their reactions were.

Wow! Love the tie idea! My Mom made a skirt for me when I was a teenager out of some silk ties that their next door neighbor and friend owned. She was executor of his will, and no one wante the ties. So she designed the skirt. Unbelievable what you can do with ties. This one takes the cake though!
Being luciels sister I was fortunate enough to receive one of these beautiful productions. I felt tenderness towards our dad and gratitude for a dear sister.
